Throughout the year, special worship services are held to celebrate significant Church holidays and important events of our lives. Blessing of the Animals The gifts God gives us are many and varied, some have fur, some fins, some feathers. Some bark, meow, chirp, or make no noise at all. The Blessing of the Animals service is a special time celebrated on the point in front of the church where God's gift to us of our pets is acknowledged and blessings are asked for them and for us. Christmas The four weeks prior to Christmas are known as Advent. Throughout these weeks we prepare for the arrival of the Messiah into our lives and into our world. The word Advent literally means "coming," or "arrival," and so the Advent season is the time of waiting and watching. We honor this season of preparation and hopeful waiting through the use of an advent wreath, in which we light a candle each Sunday, and we share in scripture readings, all related to eager anticipation. In these weeks we also adorn the sanctuary with greens and other festive decorations, we enjoy a Christmas pageant, and we celebrate special seasonal music. This is our time of preparation, as we determine the changes and priorities in our lives that will truly enable Christ to be welcome in our hearts and homes. We do so with trust and anticipation of the return of the One who is the source of all our hope. Christmas Eve is an evening of joy and celebration. We hold two Christmas Eve services: an early evening intergenerational service that engages parishioners of all ages, and an 11pm service which includes special music and message. Both services end in candlelight and all are welcome as we celebrate God's gift to us in Jesus Christ. |
